On January 20th, the White House announced the signing of an executive order entitled “Protecting The Meaning And Value Of American Citizenship.” Leaning on language in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, the executive order establishes that, as of 30 days from its signing, no children born to parents who were, at the time of the child’s birth, both either unlawful residents or lawful temporary (i.e. vacation visa) residents of the United States will be automatically eligible for citizenship of the United States as was the previous policy.

The White Civil Advocacy Project is happy to see the new White House under President Trump taking steps to combat the rapid demographic changes driven by policies that grant legal status and citizenship to unlawful and disproportionately non-White migrants. We hope to see President Trump’s White House continues to take issues of replacement migration seriously while ensuring legal White residents have a pathway to citizenship.
